Being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease can be a very scary and traumatic experience. You may feel overwhelmed and shocked to find out you have an autoimmune disease. But in that diagnosis, there is also relief as now you know that there is something wrong. It is not just all in your head and you are not making it up.

Having an autoimmune disease may feel like a life sentence of struggling with debilitating symptoms and the idea that you will always be “sick”. This does NOT have to be your story. As a Hashi’s patient myself, I want to give you hope, knowledge, and inspiration that you CAN reduce the impact of symptoms. You CAN increase your energy. You CAN lose the extra weight you picked up.

A New Approach to Health
Autoimmune disease doesn’t just happen. There are three factors that impact your likelihood of developing Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, namely your genes, the toxins in the thyroid gland, and the immune system attack on the thyroid gland. With Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, you have both a thyroid issue and an immune system issue. You must address both in order to reclaim your energy and redeem your life.
While Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease, I believe that our modern lifestyle, poor diet and bad habits have played a large part in the development of this condition. While your genetics do play a role, it is not the only factor. Emerging science called Epigenetics has shown that the environment plays a large role in whether genes are switched on or off! So while we cannot change our genes, we can impact and change just about every other aspect of our lives.
And it doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. By making small changes to your lifestyle and diet, and making sure that your thyroid hormones are optimal for your body, you too can feel great again!

The first step is to work with your functional medicine doctor who will help to optimize your thyroid hormones and identify other areas of improvement needed based on blood work results. Your doctor will also give you recommendations on what changes to make to your lifestyle and/or diet.
